How To Care For Cycling Shoes
How To Clean Your Cycling Shoes
Giving your shoes a bath might seem intimidating, but with the right supplies and technique, they’ll look brand new in no time. Here are the steps to cleaning your cycling shoes the right way.
Gather Your Supplies
First things first: lather up. Here’s what you’ll need to give your cycling shoes a proper cleaning.
- Cleaning rag or sponge
- Soft bristled brush
- Water
- Mild soap
Give Them A Scrub
If your shoes are dirty after a ride, give them a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. For more intensive cleaning, remove the insoles, unbuckle the straps or remove the laces, and gently scrub them with mild soap and water. Make sure to focus on the cleats and areas where grime collects.
When the dirt is gone, rinse them with clean water - no need to submerge them completely. Once the soap residue is gone, towel off the excess water, and set your shoes out to dry outside or near a fan.
You’re Done!
Once your shoes have dried out completely, they’re ready for action again. Keep them sparkling by wiping down your cycling shoes after every ride, and giving them a thorough cleaning when they really need it. Now, put your shoes on, clip in, and go!
